Babesia gibsoni: An apical membrane antigen-1 homologue and its antibody response in the infected dogs OAK

A cDNA encoding the apical membrane antigen-1 (AMA-1) homologue was obtained by immunoscreening a cDNA expression library prepared from Babesia gibsoni merozoite mRNA. The complete nucleotide sequence of the gene was 2062 bp. Computer analysis suggested that the sequence contains an open reading frame of 1794 bp with a coding capacity of approximately 66 kDa. Based on the homology analysis, this putative protein was designated as B. gibsoni AMA-1 (BgAMA-1). The BgAMA-1 gene was expressed in the Escherichia coli BL21 strain and used as the antigen in Western blotting and the enzyme-linked immunosorbent assay (ELISA). Rubinstein-Taybi syndrome (RTS) is a rare developmental disorder characterized by craniofacial dysmorphisms, broad thumbs and toes, mental and growth deficiency, and recurrent respiratory infections. RTS has been associated with CREBBP gene mutations, but EP300 gene mutations have recently been reported in 6 individuals. In the present study, the humoral immune response in 16 RTS patients with recurrent respiratory infections of possible bacterial etiology was evaluated. Interruption of recently induced immune responses by oral administration of antigen BJMBR

Interest in oral tolerance has been renewed in the last few years as a possibility of intervention in human autoimmune diseases. An obstacle in this direction is that, although easily induced in animals virgin of contact with the antigen, oral tolerance becomes hard to induce in previously immunized animals. The present results show that there is an early period after primary immunization in which prolonged oral exposure to the antigen may arrest ongoing immune responses. Beyond this period, oral exposures to the antigen become ineffective and may actually boost immune responses. ABSTRACT In the present study, the second generation of two genotypes RNN (Rhode Island Red × Naked Neck) and BNN (Black Australorp × Naked Neck) obtained by two self-crosses (RNN × RNN =RR and BNN × BNN= BB) and two reciprocal crosses (RNN × BNN = RB and BNN × RNN = BR) were evaluated in three alternative production systems (conventional cages, enriched cages, and aviary). In total 480 birds, comprising 240 pullets with 240 cockerels (60 pullets & 60 cockerels from each crossbred) were used during rearing phase (17-21 weeks). ABSTRACT The present study evaluated the effect of housing system on the morphometrics, serum chemistry and antibody response of dual-purpose chicken genotypes. A total of 156 pullets and 39 cockerels were randomly picked from 18 treatment block groups (3 housing system × 3 genotypes × 2 sexes) according to Randomized Complete Block Design (RCBD).
